Design has the power to transform and transport us.
So, to tell the story of Mahisi, we take a trip to the vibrant, luscious hues of Indonesia.
To a place with unparalleled artistry and design techniques cultivated and passed down for many generations. A place where ceremony accompanies daily life. Where incense wafts as people glide by wearing batik garments.
Mahisi, which means “Queen” in Sanskrit and is pronounced Ma-hee-see, pays tribute to Indonesia’s rich culture by going straight to the source. We solely employ Indonesian artisans to create our pieces.
Many of our bags feature hand-woven patterns which are not replicable, nor do they lend themselves to fast fashion. Much like the pace of life on Indonesian islands, these pieces are slow fashion. No single bag is exactly alike, and they’re designed to be collected and cherished for years.
Most importantly, we share our passion for this artistry ethically. All leather and materials are locally sourced, and weavers receive fair pay. The bags are handcrafted in Bali, and our patterns are made by women weavers from all over Indonesia.
Our carefully crafted handbags and accessories are as vibrant as they are fun. The spirit of Indonesia - its coffee, rice paddies, unique villages and ocean breezes - imbues life with spirit.
